Wedding Flat Lays

You’ve been working so hard to plan every detail of your wedding, down to the tiniest touch—and now you’re wondering what you might’ve forgotten. I get it! That’s exactly why I’ve put together this foolproof list of flat lay must-haves just for you.

But wait—what is a flat lay, anyway?

A flat lay is a styled arrangement of your wedding details, thoughtfully laid out to reflect your theme, style, and the elements that are meaningful to you and your fiancé. It can include anything from your invitation suite to heirloom jewelry or special accessories. The best part? It’s completely optional! If this kind of detail photography isn’t really your thing, no worries. But if you do want to include it, I highly recommend budgeting up to an hour in your timeline to give it the attention it deserves!

Now for the fun part—what should you bring for your detail photos? The items you choose are totally personal to you as a couple, but here are some of my all-time favorite details to include:

  • A Set of All the Invitations & Stationery

  • Both Sets of Rings

  • Shoes

  • Jewelry

  • Vow Books

  • Perfume & Cologne

  • Extra Florals From Florist (Ask for “Loose Blooms”)

  • Her Bouquet

  • His Boutonniere

  • Purse

  • Watch

  • Veil

  • Ring Box

  • His Cufflinks

  • His Tie/Bowtie

  • Sunglasses

  • Her ‘Somethings’ (New, Old, Borrowed, Blue)

  • Any Custom Wedding Items

For an easy start to your wedding day, have all your details prepped and ready to go when your photographer arrives. Typically, your photographer will gather your items in the morning, photograph them, and return everything once they’re finished. To make things easy, place all your details in a designated bag or box for quick pick-up and drop-off. And if any items hold special significance, be sure to give your photographer a heads-up ahead of time!
